Injection Molding Tool Maker

Indianapolis $35.00 - $45.00 p/h Permanent

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure all tasks are performed in compliance with safety regulations and best practices.
  • Apply quality standards for injection molded components, with the ability to identify defects based on established inspection criteria.
  • Assess plastic parts and determine necessary tooling repairs; carry out repairs as needed.
  • Perform edge repairs on tooling using TIG welding techniques.
  • Set up and operate manual precision machining equipment, including mills, lathes, surface grinders, and sinker EDM machines.
  • Fabricate tooling and fixtures from detailed 2D engineering drawings.
  • Contribute design suggestions for new or improved tooling and fixtures.
  • Apply advanced mathematical skills in daily tasks and problem-solving.
  • Plan and manage project workflows, ensuring adherence to timelines and deliverables.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance on all existing tooling.
  • Monitor and manage inventory of tooling supplies and spare components.
  • Support production by fabricating required components and tools.
  • Machine, polish, and fit parts to required specifications.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Follow all applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Utilize hand tools and powered polishing/deburring equipment proficiently.
  • Organize and delegate tasks to Tooling Technicians as needed.
  • Mentor and provide hands-on training to Tooling Technicians.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Engineering, Maintenance, and Production teams to drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in training related to SOPs, forms, and documentation relevant to the role.
  • Set up and operate 3-axis CNC milling machines and CNC sinker EDMs.
  • Edit CNC programs for milling and EDM operations as required.
  • Use hand tools and precision measuring instruments effectively.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 8–10 years of experience in building and repairing injection mold tooling.
  • Completion of trade school or equivalent hands-on experience in the field.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting detailed 2D mechanical drawings.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to speak, read, write, and comprehend English.
  • Experience working with CAD/CAM software platforms
