Microbial Research Associate

Responsibilities:

• Conduct in vitro phenotypic assays and characterization studies for both aerobic and anaerobic microbes.
• Maintain and manage bacterial and fungal cultures, including anaerobic strains; experience with small-scale fermentation is a plus.
• Execute biochemical and microbiological assays to evaluate candidate strains and microbial function.
• Support strain engineering workflows, including methods such as Gibson Assembly and CRISPR-Cas-based editing.
• Collaborate in the optimization of protocols and implementation of automation where appropriate.
• Maintain accurate, organized laboratory records and contribute to data analysis and documentation.
• Actively support a culture of scientific rigor, quality, and accountability within the team.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or a related field.
• Minimum of 2 years of laboratory research experience in academic, industry, or biotech settings.
• Proficiency in general microbiological techniques, including bacterial cultivation, strain preservation, and aseptic handling.
• Experience with molecular cloning, DNA/RNA prep, and microbial transformation.
• Hands-on work with anaerobic microorganisms and the use of anaerobic chambers or jars.
• Familiarity with automated lab equipment (e.g., liquid handling platforms, automated nucleic acid extraction).
• Exposure to next-generation sequencing workflows, including library prep and metagenomic analysis.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a focus on collaboration and continuous learning.
• High standards of integrity, organization, and attention to detail.
