Project Utilities Engineer

Bloomington $45 - $65/HR Contract

Job Responsibilities

  • Serve as technical SME throughout the design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and CQV lifecycle of dirty utilities
  • Providing design, modification, and integration expertise
  • Ensuring contractors have sufficient design detail to build with minimal rework
  • Attending reviews with architectural/engineering service providers
  • Coordinating closely with Electrical/Instruments and Mechanical/Piping disciplines
  • Reviewing and responding to all contractor queries related to utilities
  • Feeding accurate data into subcontractor packages
  • Supporting knowledge transfer from design to construction teams
  • Reviewing P&IDs, system layouts, vendor documents, and FAT plans
  • Leading utilities' CQV efforts and supporting CQV system owners
  • Enforcing compliance with environmental, safety, GMP‑adjacent, ISPE/ASME/ASTM standards
  • Ensuring documents (SOPs, PFDs, P&IDs) meet cGMP expectations
  • Facilitating punch-list resolution and providing post-install support

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
  • 5+ years of experience in a biotech, pharmaceutical, or regulated manufacturing environment, preferably in brownfield projects
  • 5+ years of Project Engineering experience pertaining to Dirty Utility deliverables for Life Science Capital Projects
  • Strong understanding of dirty utility systems, including wastewater treatment, process drains, condensate return, and non-GMP water systems.
  • Familiarity with GMP, cGMP, ISPE guidelines, and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment and manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and hands-on troubleshooting experience. Experience collaborating with facilities, operations, vendors, and engineering consultants.
