Medical Technologist - Microbiology

Responsibilities:

• Conduct a variety of routine and highly specialized diagnostic tests and procedures in the field of microbiology.
• Assure the quality of results and effectively communicate the relevance of findings to other healthcare professionals.
• Accurately and efficiently identify pathogens through manual or automated culture methods and other testing methodologies.
• Obtain results in a timely manner, recognizing both normal and life-threatening outcomes.
• Follow established protocols for the notification of results to clinicians, ensuring complete documentation on worksheets and in the Laboratory Information System (LIS).
• Perform and understand quality control programs, including the evaluation of values, documentation of errors, corrective actions, and maintenance of records in appropriate logs.
• Perform and record scheduled equipment maintenance, troubleshoot equipment problems, and promptly notify the department supervisor of any malfunctions.
• Proficiently operate the LIS and other computer-related programs, staying current with changes and upgrades to each system.
• Actively participate in departmental quality assurance programs.
• Recognize the importance of specimen integrity and identify events that may compromise the quality of testing and reporting of results.

Qualifications:

• AMT or ASCP Eligible/Certified

• Associates degree or B.A. equivalent in Biology, Chemical, Physical, Medical Technology, or Clinical Laboratory Science
